There was a 2.22 centimeters (.87 in.) wide copper rotating band which was grooved twice along its circumference dividing it into three equal segments. The average thickness of the shell was 1.27 centimeters (0.5 in.). The inner wall of the shell was lacquered to provide corrosion resistance against the agent.
