Description
The Type 81 signal mine is a warning device that creates an audible and visible alarm. The Type 81 has a snap-in stake to simplify installation. Fuzing is through either tripwire or pressure. The mounting stake, fuze, and detonator are the same as those of the Type 69 bounding fragmentation mine. The signal mines visible alarm is created by the launching of small star clusters up to a height of 80 meters. The visual signal is intended to be visible for 500 meters during daylight hours and 1000 meters at night. An audible signal is also generated that provides a warning up to 1000 meters away.
The mine has one fuze well and no power source.
The mine is green and is 198 mm high.
