Description

The Type 84 AT mine appears to be a modified version of the Type 59 AT mine. The reasons for the modification are to bring it to the same size standards as the other mechanically emplaceable mines (Type 69, Type 72, and Type 81 plastic mines). The Type 84 consists of a sheet-metal body with fold-out carrying handle; the explosive charge, fuzes, and boosters; and a diaphragm to separate the pressure plate and explosive charge. The noticeable difference is that there is no side mounted filler plug. Like its predecessor, the pressure plate is stepped on to facilitate crushing and a controlled actuation pressure results from this design. It is not known if the Type 84 has a secondary fuze well for boobytrapping.

The mine has one fuze well and no power source.

The mine is OD green and 110 mm high.
