The FIM-92 is a surface to air infrared (IR) or infrared and ultraviolet homing guided missile that can be carried and fired by one person. The FIM-92A, 92B, 92C, and 92D models are basically the same; the differences are modifications in guidance and control which are of no EOD significance. The STLS utilizes a modified Stinger launcher which duplicates the sequence of events for the firing of the Stinger missile, and is used for operator training. Except for an eject motor in the aft end, the STLS eject missile is inert.
The guidance and control sections and the launch motor are unpainted. The warhead and flight motor are either a greenish yellow or olive drab. The launch tube is olive drab with a brown band at the rear and a yellow band near the front. The gripstock is olive drab. The STLS eject missile is anodized blue. The STLS launcher is olive drab with markings in white; four bronze squares are on the forward and the aft ends.
