The BLU-97(T-1)/B, BLU-97(T-1)A/B, BLU-97(T-2)/B, and BLU-97(T-3)/B are practice bombs and are identical to the BLU-97/B except for explosive content and painting and markings. The BLU-97(D-1)/B is a ballistic dummy bomb and is similar in appearance to the other bombs but is completely inert with different painting and markings.
The BLU-97/B and BLU-97A/B bombs are painted yellow and have nomenclature, loading data, and identifying numbers stenciled in black on the side of the standoff probe. BLU-97(T-1)/B and BLU-97(T-1)A/B bombs are painted blue and have the bomb designation PRACTICE BOMB LIVE FUZE INERT FILLED and identifying numbers stenciled in white on the side of the standoff probe. One broken yellow color band is painted around the rear of the standoff probe. Preproduction bombs may be found painted orange with black markings and one broken yellow and one broken blue color band around the rear of the standoff probe. The BLU-97(T-2)/B bomb is painted green and has the designation PRACTICE BOMB LIVE FUZE ARMING INDICATOR and identifying numbers stenciled in black on the side of the standoff probe. Three broken color bands, one yellow, one light blue, and one white, are painted around the rear of the standoff probe. The BLU-97(T-3)/B bomb is painted green and has the designation PRACTICE BOMB LIVE FUZE FUNCTIONING INDICATOR and identifying numbers stenciled in black on the side of the standoff probe. Three broken color bands, one yellow, one white, and one light blue, are painted around the rear of the standoff probe. The BLU-97(D-1)/B bomb is painted blue and has the designation BALLISTIC DUMMY and identifying numbers stenciled in black on the side of the standoff probe. It contains no color bands.
