The TMB-2 antitank mine is encased in tar impregnated cardboard, sealed with tape and a coating of asphalt. This mine is designed to make electronic detection difficult, if not impossible.
This mine is frequently used along with metal or wooden mines to remain armed and undetected in a supposedly cleared minefield.
The TMB-2 antitank mine is identical in appearance to the TMB-1 except that it is larger and heavier. It is 10 3/4 inches wide and 6 inches high. It weighs a total of 15.4 pounds of which 11 pounds is explosive (usually powdered Amatol, 80/20). The TMB-2 uses a 75-gram cylindrical charge for a booster instead of a 50-gram charge as in the TMB-1. Internally, however, there is some difference between the two mines. Otherwise, the two mines are identical in functioning, employment, arming, and neutralizing.
The application of force on the glass pressure plug on top of the case actuates the fuze and detonates the mine.
