
The M86 mine is a scatterable, hand-deployed, antidisturbance or self-destruct-fired, bounding antipersonnel (APERS) mine. The mine is used by Special Forces for area denial, or to delay or disrupt pursuing enemy forces and is designed to self-destruct 4 hours after arming.
The M86 mine is olive drab. The letters HE will appear in yellow on the two sides of the M86 mine body. The mine nomenclature and lot number are stenciled in black on the two sides of the mine body. The arming strap and nose guard are green. A yellow stenciled warning notice is on the arming strap.
