
These bombs are used against personnel and light material targets such as airplanes and motor transports. They are often carried in a cluster container.
The main charge constitutes about 7 to 50 percent of the total weight of the bomb.
The bomb body is gray with a green nose band and a blue body band.
The cases are very thick and account for most of the total bomb weight, except when the bombs have concrete cases. Fragmentation bomb cases are cast from either steel, gun iron, or reinforced concrete. The AO-2.5 comes from a converted French 45mm artillery projectiles, frag bombs of this type are no longer being produced.
