
This is a fin stabilized, impact inertia initiated, incendiary bomb whose contents are tail ejected and scattered over a large area. It is used against targets with a low percentage of protective covering.
The M74 is identical to M74A1 except that the M74 has fuze M142A1 instead of M197. Bomb M74A1 uses the incendiary bomb cluster M35 and the bomb M74 uses incendiary bomb cluster M31.
The bomb body is painted gray with a purple band denoting the incendiary feature. Bomb nomenclature and lot number are stenciled on the body.
